In 1871, the first bridge across the Shotover River was opened and all traffic passed through the ferry hotel. It continued to serve miners, farmers, and merchants until the bridge closed around 1912. The disaster struck in 1872, and the hotel was destroyed by fire, but fortunately, it was rebuilt in the same year. When a new bridge opened upstream in 1915, the site of Ferry was cut in half, and the tractor was moved to its current location on Spencer Road. It was not until 1971 that the ground transportation company built the new modern bridge near its original site, which allowed it to continue operating as a hotel. This old hotel is no longer suitable for moving, it decided to grow old gracefully. Ferry has been used as a bed and breakfast since 1994, welcoming tourists from all over the world.
