As a store, a boat and a driver moved from Shotover Jet, Queenstown, to a small wooden shed on the banks of the Waikato River, 700 meters upstream of the current location. In the first year of operation, approximately 1,200 passengers were carried. In 1998, it moved to a place near the shrimp farm, now known as Huka Prawn Park. A special purpose building was constructed there and a new double berth pier was opened in December of the same year. Since then, Hukafalls Jet's business has continued to grow and become one of the leading tourism companies in the Taupo region and one of the leading seaplane companies in the North Island of New Zealand. Based on Christchurch Ngāi Tahu Holdings in 1999 invested in Shotover Aircraft Group and full ownership thereafter.
