Under the leadership of Bomhard, Kentucky Opera grew from a smaller organization into a strong, innovative and respected company, which was one of the oldest regional opera companies in the United States, to provide quality work to its audience. The Bomhard Theater at the Kentucky Arts Center is named after him. After 30 years in office, Bombhard retired in 1982.
