In 1973, Symeon's restaurant opened, giving the Mohawk Valley its first taste of authentic Greek cuisine. Symeon's and his wife Ann were the first to set up a restaurant on Oneida Street near the Parkway intersection in Utica. The building can only accommodate about 20 guests! While he ran the restaurant, Ann was busy making all the desserts at home and became a full-time mother of two. After a three-year boom in Utica, he moved to Genesee Street in New Hartford. Here, the dining area can accommodate twice as many people! For more than six years, the restaurant has been a huge success. The owners knew it was time to build a bigger building and a better location. In 1982, he and Ann purchased their current Yorkville Commercial Drive properties, formerly Riley's Place and Goetz's Diner.
