Alex Leeds (Bass), Teddy Matthews (Drummer) and Henry Stewart (Guitarist) were childhood friends in Madison, Wisconsin, and they have been working together since their teens. However, just before the release of EP2, another resident of Madison, Emily Massey (guitarist / vocalist) joined the band, which really formed the Slow Pulp. She started as a rhythm guitar and vocal vocalist, and soon inherited her lead role. For most of Winspear's founding, they have been spinning off in Madison, Wisconsin, and Minneapolis, Minnesota, emailing presentation ideas to each other and practicing whenever they have time to meet. Last fall, they moved to Chicago, lived in the same apartment, and released Winspear's second album, Big Day, on May 15.
