My Chemical Romance is an American punk band from New Jersey. Its members include Gerard Way, drummer Bob Bryar, guitarist Ray Toro, Frank Iero, and bass player Mikey Way. The band's name comes from a book by Irvine Welsh, Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance, which Mikey, the bass player, found. In 2002, they released their independent debut album in 2003, the band signed with Reprise records. In 2004, My Chemical Romance became more and more popular in the United States with the release of its first big album, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, which brought in producer Rob Cavallo (producer of Green Day's American Idiot) and sold 1.5 million copies. On March 23, 2013, the band announced their split.
